Earl Stiver Obituary

Earl M. Stiver, 92, passed away peacefully with his family around him at 1:48 p.m. on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at the Trumbull Regional Medical Center following a short illness. Earl was born in Hubbard, Ohio on March 1, 1931 the son of Charles H. and Neva S. (Stewart) Stiver.

He was a 1949 graduate of Howland High School and a 1953 graduate of Westminster College with a Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting and a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corp. as a First Lieutenant.

From 1955 to 1989 Earl worked in the family business. During this period he and his brothers owned the C.H. Stiver Company, a Chevrolet car and truck dealership that their father began in downtown Niles. Earl was an active member of the Howland Community Church serving as a Deacon, Trustee Emeritus, treasurer and on various committees. He was a fifty-plus year faithful member of the Niles Rotary Club, serving as President, Treasurer and was the recipient of a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow.

Earl and Bea lived in Howland until 1986 when they moved to a 47 acre farm in Liberty Township. The B & E Farm became their home until they moved back to Howland in 2021. While their daughters were in school, he was a pony league umpire, coached softball with the Howland Athletic Club and worked with Howland Band Boosters. Following his retirement from the car dealership he maintained his knowledge of taxes and worked at H & R Block and AARP doing taxes for seniors. He enjoyed farming, gardening, raising animals, golfing, traveling and while at Shepherd of the Valley retirement villas playing cornhole, bingo, bocce and dominos. He cherished family gatherings and activities with his daughters and grandchildren.

Earl is survived by four daughters; Jane (John) Walters of Howland, Barbara (James) Kooser of Shaker Heights, Mary Stiver of Fowler, Diane (Spencer) Schwartz of Waldorf, Maryland; four grandchildren, Sarah Faller, Michael Kooser, Kate (Ben) Swope, Gregory (Maggie) Schwartz; three great grandchildren, Kody Bingham, Abel McKnight, Owen Swope; brother, Thomas (Sheila) Stiver of Cortland. Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice "Bea" (Gillette) Stiver whom he married on December 26, 1953 and who died on May 6, 2022; two brothers, John Stiver and Charles Stiver.

Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, December 22, 2023 at the Howland Community Church 198 Niles-Cortland Road SE Warren, Ohio 44484. The funeral will follow at noon at the Church. The Rev. Erica L. Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Youth Fund at Howland Community Church.
