HOWLAND - Eugene "Gene" Slover, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 at 10:33 am on Friday May 16, 2014 at the Autumn Hills Nursing Home following a short illness.
He was born in Lake City, Tennessee on January 13, 1922 the son of Charles Roscoe and Anna (Bradshaw) Slover. A 1941 graduate of St. Charles High School in Virginia, he moved to Ohio in 1944. He retired as a recorder in 1980 after working 37 years at Republic Steel. He enjoyed traveling, camping and woodworking.
Gene is survived by three nephews, Ralph (Margaret) Crowley of Niles, Sonny (Peg) Christy of Youngstown, William Slover of Virginia; niece Donna Anne Smith of Illinois; his loyal best friends and caregivers, Daniel Francis, Cheryl Francis, Brandon Francis, Cameron Francis and Jennifer Francis; companion, Alice Preston and several great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lillian (Hammonds) Slover whom he married in 1959 and who died on June 29, 1995; two brothers, Lonnie Slover. Leland Slover; two sisters, Beulah Christy and Estelle Crowley.
The funeral will be Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
