Harry Eugene "Gene" Crockett, 75, passed away unexpectedly on Friday afternoon September 15, 2023 in the emergency room of St. Joseph Health Center after becoming ill at home. Gene was born in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania on March 26, 1948 the son of Harry and Janet (Younkin) Crockett.
Gene was a 1966 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and honorably served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He retired in 1997 from the City of Niles Fire Department with 25 years of faithful service. Following his retirement, he was a Constituent Liaison for Congressman Tim Ryan for over 17 years. Gene was active in local politics and was a member of the Niles Men's Democrat Club and served for several terms as the club president. He was a member of the Austintown Eagles Club #3298, Warren Moose Lodge #168 and the Lake Milton American Legion Post 737. He enjoyed playing cards and cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Gene is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Mary Lou (Hickman) Crockett whom he married June 6, 1970; daughter, Tracy (Michael) Lastic; son, Thomas (Ja'Quada) Crockett Sr.; six grandchildren, Allison Lastic, Julia Lastic, Jalen Royal-Eiland, Layla Royal, Jaden Royal, Thomas "TJ" Crockett Jr. all of Niles. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Calling Hours will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday September 30, 2023 at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home, 126 West Park Avenue, Niles, Ohio 44446. The Memorial Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Runyan of the Warren Central Christian Church officiating.
