James Werner Obituary

BRISTOLVILLE - James A. Werner Sr., 100, passed away peacefully at 4:54 a.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at the Country Club Manor of Newton Falls where he was a resident for several days following a one month illness. James was born in Struthers, Ohio on March 15, 1921 the son of Alfred H. and Hazel (Stevenson) Werner.
James attended the local schools and entered the Army on January 3, 1940 and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant on October 27, 1945. During his years of service he was a radio operator in the South Pacific and was a survivor of the attack at Pearl Harbor and received five Battle Stars. James was an active ham radio operator, lock smith and enjoyed model trains. He also had a small photography business for several years. James was employed in the production and tool and die departments for Delphi Packard Electric for over 35 years and he retired in 1983. James is survived by two daughters, Cathy (Leonard) Shannon of Rootstown, Sheri (Eric) Nellis of Bristolville, three sisters, Alice O'Brien of Girard, Marjorie Watson of Mansfield, Dorothy (Richard) Meyers of Euclid, seven grandchildren, Matthew (Holly) Shannon, Daniel (Lisa) Shannon, Megan Shannon, Eric (Veronica) Nellis II, Amanda (Ryan) Machuzak, Nathan Nellis, Leah Nellis, nine great grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his wife the former Thelma N. Dulaney Werner whom he married September 5, 1953 and she preceded him in death on October 28, 1988, son James A. Werner Jr. who died October 18, 1989, daughter Joyce Werner who died November 2, 1989, brother, Carl Werner, two sisters, Mary Bentley and Ida Kadleck.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home, Niles from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Holeton-Yuhasz funeral home on Monday, October 25, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Susan Tatarka officiating. Burial will be at Niles City Cemetery.
