Joanne Louise Canann

Joanne Louise Canann, 90, passed away peacefully at 10:56 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2025 at the Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home, Liberty. Joanne was born in Niles, Ohio on January 14, 1935 the daughter of Joseph W. and Clara L. (Pierce) Lawrence and lived in this community all of her life.

She was a 1953 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and was a retired inspector at Packard Electric Company following many years of faithful service. Joanne was a longtime member of the Niles First United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening, playing bingo, eating out at restaurants and trying her luck at the casinos. She cherished her grandchildren and followed all their school and sports activities and their careers. In recent years, she enjoyed hearing stories of her great grandchildren, Eliana Canann and Bennett Canann, during her daily treats of coffee and jelly filled doughnuts.

Joann is survived by four sons, Joseph (Carmel) Canann Jr. of Niles, Donald (Jan) Canann of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Richard A. Canann of Granbury, Texas, John Canann, with whom she made her home, of Howland; three grandchildren, Christopher (Ashley) Canann, Joey Canann, Saydea E. (Jason) Bontke; two great grandchildren Eliana Canann, Bennett Canann; two sisters, Mary Barna of Warren, Clara Badilo of Florida; daughter in law, Alice Canann of Newton, Kansas; sister in law, Sally Canann and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Canann, Charles Canann; former husband Joseph E. Canann Sr.; two sisters, Estella Chatley, Dorothy Scaggs; two brothers, Elmer (Judy) Lawrence, Joseph Lawrence and brother in law Robert Canann.

A private funeral will be Friday, May 23, 2025 at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home, with the Rev. Shane Russo officiating. Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.

The family acknowledges the kind and compassionate care provided by Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home in Liberty and Traditions Health Hospice.
