NILES - John Philip Hallock 73, passed away peacefully at 9:04 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at the Hospice House in Poland. John was born in Warren, Ohio on May 4, 1947 the son of John and Margaret M. "Peg" (Walker) Hallock and resided in this community his entire life. He was a 1965 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and a 1969 graduate of Clarion University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Education. He retired in 2000 from Howland Middle School where he taught science for 31 years. He was also the Howland Middle School wrestling coach for 31 years and a member of the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association and the Trumbull County Wrestling Coaches Association. In his retirement, John was an avid golfer and weekend billiard player. He was a member of St. Stephen Church in Niles.
John is survived by his sister in law, Karen Hallock of Niles; brother in law Ronald Metzger of Mansfield; niece, Stephanie (Andrew) Carroll of Columbus; and nephew, Robert (Jessica) Metzger of Ashland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathleen Metzger in 2017, brother, Michael Hallock in 2012 and nephew, Nathan Metzger.
Calling hours will be from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Saturday April 17, 2021 at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday April 17, 2021 at St. Stephen Church preceded by a 12:45 p.m. prayer service at the funeral home. Rev. Richard Murphy will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery.
