John Mahoney Obituary

CANFIELD - John E. Mahoney Jr., 62, died unexpectedly at 7:50 p.m. on Wednesday December 24, 2014 at the St. Elizabeth Health Center in Boardman.

He was born in Warren on February 25, 1952 the son of John E. and Jacqueline Louise (Schick) Mahoney Sr. He lived most of his life in Niles and recently moved to Canfield.

John was a graduate of Niles McKinley High School and received a Bachelors of Science in Education from Westminister College. He played football both in high school and college. He was a defensive coordinator and coach at Niles and Howland High Schools. He retired in 2006 as a teacher for the Niles City Schools working at Edison Junior High School and the Niles Middle School. He was the past union president for the Niles Classroom Teachers Association. John was a member of St. Stephen Church, a former Altar Server and an avid swimmer.

John loved his daughter and granddaughter wholeheartedly. His memories will be cherished by his daughter, Courtney (Eric) Jones of Niles; granddaughter, Annabelle Jones; longtime girlfriend, Marina Yourik; two brothers, Michael P. (Anita) Mahoney of Richmond, Virginia, Patrick J. (Shirley) Mahoney of Dayton; two sisters, Mary Patricia (Mike) McCall of Punta Gorda, Florida, Patricia (Don) Luchsinger of Vermilion.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jennifer Daley.

Calling hours will be Sunday, December 28, 2014 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. The Funeral will be Monday, December 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery.
