Joseph Anthony Belcastro Sr., 86, passed away at 11:12 p.m. on Sunday March 26, 2023. He was born in Niles, Ohio on October 3, 1936 the son of Tony and Mary A. (Franco) Belcastro.
Joesph was a 1954 graduate of Niles McKinley High School. He honorably served in the United States Army overseas for 28 months. He retired from The City of Niles Fire Department as a Captain serving from 1963 to 1989. Joe was a member of St. Stephen Church in Niles and enjoyed golfing, swimming, dancing, football and baseball and also enjoyed traveling and vacationing with his children and grandchildren.
Joe was a life-long supporter of the John F. Kennedy High School Athletics, serving as the equipment manager for many years. Throughout his tenure, Joe worked tirelessly to ensure that the athletes had the necessary equipment and facilities to perform at their best and ensure that they were always well protected on the field. He was a beloved figure among the students, coaches and staff alike. He was recognized for his significant athletic contributions of time, efforts and hard work and because of this was inducted into The Varsity Club Athletic Hall of Fame at JFK.
Joe is survived by five children, Timothy Belcastro of St. Petersburg, Florida, Anthony (Karen) Belcastro of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Joseph Belcastro Jr. of Defiance, Ohio, Mary Michelle (Edmond) Sanctis of Issaquah, Washington, Carla Ann Belcastro of Sagamore Hills; his brother, Nicholas (Linda) Belcastro of Niles and sister Carmie (Earl) Steadman of Fort Myers, Florida. He is also survived by nine grandchildren that were an immense source of happiness for him; Amanda, Curtis, Gabrielle, Andrew, Sam, Wil, Ben, Dean, Julian. He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Anne Belcastro.
Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday March 31, 2023 at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday April 1, 2023 at St. Stephen Church preceded by the Trumbull County Honor Guard service at 10:15 a.m. and a prayer service at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
