NILES - Kay F. Eckrote 79, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully on Monday, November 22, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania on June 3, 1942 the daughter of Veto and Mary (Kensinger) Sottile. She worked tirelessly to become a registered nurse, while raising a family, and worked as an RN at Youngstown Northside Hospital for 30 years before retiring.
Kay loved spending time with her family and serving her church and neighborhood. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Niles and frequently volunteered her time at Second Harvest Food Bank and the American Red Cross. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, gardening, crocheting and bowling.
She will be deeply missed by those who survived her which include her brother and sister; 9 children, Vicky Reed of Niles, Annette (Kin) Moy of Warren, Robert (Vicky) Reed of Niles, Linda (Denny Sr.) Shoemaker of Niles, Tina (Claude) Miller of Niles, Renee (Kenneth) Pallante of Howland, Michael (Joni) Eckrote of Michigan, Donald M. (Tracy) Eckrote of Mineral Ridge, Nancy Knowles of S. Carolina; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren, many of whom were lovingly referred to as "George". Kay was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband Donald C. Eckrote.
The funeral will be at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home, Niles where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service.
