Mark K. Thou 69, passed away peacefully at 12:22 p.m. on Thursday May 5, 2022 at his home following a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 9, 1953 the son of Samuel and Nancy (White) Thou Sr..
Mark was a 1972 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Youngstown State University. Mark recently retired from the Niles Police Department as a Captain supervising the Detective Division after serving the community for 35 years. He was a member of the Niles F.O.P. Lodge 27 and St. Stephen Church. He enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing and playing cards. Most of all, he cherished the time spent with his family and granddaughter Layla.
Mark is survived by his wife, Sharon L. (Cottrell) Thou whom he married on August 20, 1977; daughter, Lindsey (Jeffrey) Scott of Mineral Ridge; granddaughter, Layla Scott of Mineral Ridge; father, Samuel Thou Sr. of Cleveland; sister, Cheryl Kaddatz of Minnesota; sister-in-law, Mary Thou of Niles; siblings, Diane Schulist of Wisconsin, Clara "Betty Lou" Vanbuskirk of Akron, William H. "Bill" (Judy) Wilson of Tennessee, John P. (Bobbie) Wilson of Niles, Rick (Annmarie) Wilson of Niles, Terry Wilson of Akron, Sally (Clint) Finegan of Coshocton and several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and siblings, Sam Thou, Linda Baker, Darlene Fought, Delores Reed, Charles "Chuck" Wilson.
Calling Hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday May 9, 2022 at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. A Service of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday May 10, 2022 at the funeral home where family and friends may also call one hour prior to the service. Rev. Richard Murphy will officiate. Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
