Richard David Ayers, 76, passed away peacefully following an extended illness at 10:40 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at the St. Joseph Health Center. Richard was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia on October 30, 1946 the son of Dennis D. and Wilma (Johnson) Ayers.
Richard attended schools in Clarksburg and retired as a welder and ladle operator for the former Warren plant of WCI Steel Company. He was a United States Navy veteran serving from March 24, 1965 to December 29, 1969 and attended the Niles First Baptist Church. Following his retirement, Richard especially enjoyed being a part of his grandchildren's activities and playing computer games on his home computer.
Richard is survived by his wife Shirley Cheek Ayers whom he married March 4, 1977; two daughters, Doris Ann (Patrick) Fraser of Niles, Rosetta Lynn Schaaf of Boyton Beach, Florida; three grandchildren, Kyle Bragg, Simon Fraser, Ella Fraser; sister, Sandra K. (Tom) Tomko of Howland; three brothers, Jeff L. Ayers, Dennis Ayers all of Niles, John V. (Tami) Ayers II of Erie, Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Thomas H. Cheek who died June 17, 2017; three brothers, Robert L. Ayers, Wayne R. Ayers and George L. Ayers.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at the Niles First Baptist Church with the Rev. G. Ben Reed officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour before the services.
