Richard L. Scherich, 68, passed away peacefully at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at the Cleveland Clinic after battling complications from a lung transplant surgery. Rick as he was known by many, was born in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania on July 16, 1954 the son of Joseph and Pauline (Scott) Scherich.
Rick was retired in October of 2003 as a welder from the General Motors Company, Lordstown Plant following 30 years of faithful service. A graduate of Waynesburg High School in 1972, he was an outstanding high school basketball player. He was a very good bowler and bowled several 300 games and 800 total scores. Rick loved playing cards, chess, golf and baseball. He was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan and most of all, he was the nicest, friendliest person you would ever want to be in contact with.
Rick is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Monica H. Rozbitsky Scherich whom he married July 2, 1990; furry children P.J. and Izzy; brother, Ronald (Valerie) Scherich of Niles; two sisters, Tammy Scherich and Joetta Scherich of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania; eight nieces and nephews and many great nieces and great nephews. Rick was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Scherich; sister, Debbie Scherich and nephew, Ronnie Scherich.
Calling hours will be held at the Holeton- Yuhasz Funeral Home, Niles on Sunday, August 7, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to the 5:00 p.m. with funeral services to follow at 5:00 pm on Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. James Spatholt of the New Hope United Methodist Church of Niles officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the Greene County Memorial Park Cemetery, Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.
