Sandra J. Pressell

The family of Sandra J. Pressell, affectionately known as Granny, is saddened to announce her passing Friday, December 13, 2024 at St. Joseph Hospital. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio on August 18, 1939, the daughter of Julius and Marian (Katcher) Russell and resided most of her life in Niles.

She is a 1957 graduate of Mineral Ridge High School and for over twenty years, was the food service supervisor at the Youngstown Developmental Center. She was a faithful member of Niles First Christian Church where she was a member of the Lydia Circle, served meals at the Rescue Mission and was an Elder.

Sandra loved being in the kitchen and was happiest when hosting parties. The food, festivities, parade and fireworks of Dave and Sandra's annual 4th of July celebration was legendary. She enjoyed being outside taking meticulous care of her yard and inside taking care of her home that would welcome anyone who stopped by. An avid sports fan, she cheered for the Cavs, Browns, Indians and Notre Dame. Since high school, she also enjoyed meeting with her club girls each month.

Sandra is survived by three children, Lori (Paul) Bates of Niles, Jeff McCormick of Niles and Kathy McCormick of Mineral Ridge; her grandchildren, Jake (Sarah) Kinser, Bethany (Dartanyon) Bates, Adam (Madison) Bates, Tiffany (Alex) Kahle, Tori McCormick; seven great grandchildren and her brother, Donnie (Georgia) Russell of Fort Myers, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband David A. Pressell whom she married on August 27, 1966 and who died on October 19, 2020 and a grandson Craig Jason "CJ" McCormick.

Calling hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday December 18, 2024 at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Christopher Stark will officiate. Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
