Shirley Dawson

April 10, 1940 ~ September 30, 2021 (age 81)


Howland Township - Shirley Temple Johnson Dawson, 81, passed away peacefully at 4:10 p.m. on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at the home of her daughter Kendra, with whom she lived.
Shirley was born in Carter County, Kentucky on April 10, 1940, the daughter of George and Victoria Boggs Johnson. The Johnson family moved to the Niles area when Shirley was a child and she attended the Niles local schools. Shirley passionately loved Jesus and was an active member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church on DeForest Road where she participated in many of the church activities. She was funny, always laughing, teasing and joking around. Shirley made friends easily and loved a "sale" of any kind. She was ready to travel or vacation at a moments notice.
Shirley was a wonderful homemaker and raised six ornery children with God's blessings and strength. Throughout her life, she always made herself available to babysit her grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was greatly loved and will be sorely missed by those she left behind.
Shirley is survived by two daughters, Tina (Joseph) Jackson of Howland Twsp., Kendra (Michael) Yaratch of Howland Twsp., three sons, Mark Ciriello of Niles, Brian (Alma) Ciriello of Columbus, Kenneth Dawson of McDonald. She leaves twelve beautiful grandchildren Ashley Fellows, Aaron Jackson, Alivia Jackson, Abigail Yaratch, Michaela Yaratch, Anthony Wilson, Joseph Ciriello, Brandon Ciriello, Hunter Ciriello, Amanda Mancino, Amber Fairbanks and Jason Flaviano, a brother, Loyd (Lucille) Johnson of Wake Forest, North Carolina, a sister, Diane (Joseph) Esposito of Palmyra, Virginia.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth Lee Dawson whom she married in 1973 and he died on March 28, 2016, a son Anthony Ciriello, three sisters, Infant Ava Johnson, Virginia Misel, Rhoda Cross, brother Harlan Johnson.
There will be a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at the Niles City Cemetery Chapel with Pastor Douglas Brown officiating. Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
