NILES - Harold F. Glunt, 75, of Niles,Ohio died of cancer on Thursday evening January 21, 2010 at his home. Harold was born in Hollidaysburgh, Pennsylvania on April 2, 1934 to Frederick and Annie Mae (Claycomb) Glunt. He graduated from Hollidaysburgh, PA High School, married Janet M. (Cole) and moved to Niles, Ohio in 1955. He was in the Naval Reserves and honorably discharged in February 1960. He worked for Republic Steel in Warren, Ohio where he served a machinist apprenticeship and eventually was a general supervisor of the Cold Strip. He started his own machine shop in Cortland, Ohio in 1966 and moved it to Warren, Ohio in 1971 and grew it to over 250 employees. The company repairs and builds new steel and aluminum mill equipment throughout the US, South America and Asia.
He semi-retired from Glunt Industries in 2001 and purchased Beacon Broadcasting in Warren, Ohio to focus on Christian Broadcasting in the area.
He was an active member of North Mar Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Warren. He recently served on the Deacon Board and also served with the Nursing Home Ministry. He was also involved with the Evangelism Explosion team and traveled to China on a short term missions trip which included a large outreach program he so generously supported.
He was a member and treasurer of the Gideons International and was very instrumental in the Jesus video project several years ago.
He was a member and treasurer of the Anglers Anonymous Club and was a very avid fisherman spending a lot of time on Lake Erie fishing for walleye and perch where he received many "Fish Ohio" awards for his catch.
Harold is survived by his wife Janet of 56 years, two daughters, Shelby (Jimmy) Green of Mineral Ridge, Anna Marie Glunt of Akron; four sons, Dennis (Carol) Glunt of Howland, Alan Glunt of Warren, Michael Glunt of Howland, Patrick (Diana) Glunt of Mineral Ridge; 13 grandchildren, George Pirock, Jason Pirock, Jeremy Green, Julie Green, Joshua Green, Ashley Glunt, Nicole Glunt, Christopher (Amanda) Glunt, Eric Glunt, Nicholas Glunt, Danielle Glunt, Zachary Glunt, Sabrina Glunt; 2 great grandchildren; brother, Ralph (Becky) Glunt of Arkansas; four sisters, Beulah Vaughn of Altoona, PA,Doris (Leroy) Robertson of Hollidaysburgh, PA, Ruby (Edward) Houck of Downingtown, PA, Sylvia (Robert) Ward of St. Peters, MO.
He is preceded in death by a daughter Deborah (Pirock) Gladstone; parents Frederick and Annie Mae (Claycomb) Glunt; three sisters, Fern Putt, Vera Shaffer, Verna Shaw; half sister Kathryn Marketta; two brothers Dale and Paul Glunt.
Calling Hours will be Sunday, January 24, 2010 from 5 to 7 pm at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home in Niles. The Funeral will be Monday, January 25, 2010 at noon at the North Mar Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Warren where family and friends may also call one hour prior to the service. Private burial will be at Niles City Cemetery
