Location:Mission Viejo CAI had the pleasure of rooming with Charlie in our freshman year at UofM. We were not only roommates but we also were both attending the University on football scholarships. I was a fullback and Charley played tackle. Despite our scholastic differences - he being in Engineering and me a lowly Liberal Arts major, we somehow managed to communicate our entire 5 years on campus. He was a great guy but I don't need to tell you that. He will be missed and you have my sincerest condolences.

Location:Henderson, NVCharlie and I were teammates at Michigan. He was from a great tradition of High School Football - Niles Ohio and I was from an unlikely athletic High school - Cleveland Heights High in Clevland Heights Ohio. I looked up to Charlie and was fortunate enough to play the "other tackle" when we won the Big Ten and Rose Bowl. I will always remember his strong character.

Location:Fort Wayne, INTo the Kines family, my condolences, prayers, and love. Charlie and I met and played together at The Niles McKinley our sophmore year and qickly became friends. We "lived" the best 3 football years two team mates could ever have: 1959, 1960, and 1961. He was a GREAT team mate and the Captain of our 1961 "Best in Ohio" State Champion football team. Charlie provided the strong leadership and courage that such an amazing group of young men needed under the coaching of the "Best Ever" Coach Mason. From his Right Tackle position, Charlie, was the let me show you what it means to be a WINNER!!! He was not only a Great Leader, but a better young man and truly one of Caoach Mason's "gentlemen" -- a scholar-athlete. We graduated in June of 1962, and went different ways -- he to Michigan and I to Denison. In January of 1965, there was Charlie on TV asa a starting lineman for Michigan's Rose Bowl Team -- how proud I was to know that he was my friend and going to play in the ultimate college football game.
I knew Charlie as a friend, team mate, and the Captain of that GREAT 1961 Niles McKinley "Best in Ohio" State Championship Football TEAM!!! As the 2010 Football Season gets underway, I'm sure Charlie is with Coach Mason and all the guys who have gone before Chuck and talking FOOTBALL!!!
I send my prayers up to God for this friend, gentleman, and patriot -- Charlie Kines.

Location:DenverDear Kines Family,
You have my deepest condolences on Charlie's passing.
Charlie and I met as Freshmen members of the UofM's football team and quickly became the best of friends. We roomed together for 3 years and Charlie was always the best and most easy going of roommates.
My parents came up to Ann Arbor for every game and also quickly came to love Charlie.
After college, Charlie and I kept in close touch. We corresponded when he was in Vietnam and after he completed his service in the Marines, Charlie moved out to Colorado and lived with a couple of my cousins, one of his Marine buddies and some other folks on a farm that one of my uncles owned. My wife Mary and I also lived on the farm in a small house near to the larger farm house Charlie lived in. Mary, Charlie and I remained close friends and companions during the time he lived in Colorado.
After Charlie moved to Minnesota and then to Florida, he frequently visited Mary and I when he returned to Colorado. By this time Mary and I had a couple of children and a visit from Uncle Charlie was always an exciting time for the kids, as well as for Mary and me.
Quite a number of years ago, I lost contact with Charlie and I have always missed our earlier closeness. He was a wonderful friend, a very good and decent person and someone who always remains in my thoughts.
Again, Mary, I and our children wish to extend our most heartfelt condolences at his passing and your loss.
Best Personal Regards,
Bill Keating

Location:New York, NYUIt is with deep sadness that my wife Janet and I express our condolances to the Kines' family. Charlie was a gentle, bright man who played a sometimes violent game very well. He sacrificed a great deal for his country while serving six years in the Vietnam war and we can never know the extent of his sacrifices. It must have been the central experience of his life and we will be forever grateful for what he did. Charlie was a large part of my life at Niles McKinley High School, and my college life at Michigan, both as a teammate, fellow student and friend. I will always be proud of Charlie for who he was, what he did and stood for.
The Kines' family should always be proud of him for many reasons. I know I will.
All our warmest regards,
Rick and Janet Sygar
