NILES - Herbert Ira (Pap) Davis, 90, passed away in the early morning of Friday July 02, 2010 at the residence following a long illness. At his death he was surrounded by his family and friends.
Herb was born on June 20, 1920 in McConnelsville, Ohio to Edgar Davis and Tina (Tiny) Rollison Lawrence and came to this area many years ago.
He was a corporal in the United States Army and served in Europe during World War II. He was employed for 43 years as a motor repairman for Peerless-Winsmith Electric Company of Warren until his retirement in 1982.
Herb will be fondly remembered by all who knew him for his wonderful sense of humor and unique catch phrases. He was an avid football fan especially the Niles McKinley Red Dragons. A jack of all trades, Herb enjoyed helping his many friends with carpentry and other projects. He felt very blessed to have so many great neighbors and friends.
He is survived by his wife the former Sam (Georgene) Allen Davis whom he married April 7, 1973, his children, Lonna (Wayne) Mackey, Ronald (Becky) Schlabs, Amie (Richard) Prezioso all of Niles, Marcie (Robert) Bianco of Kinsman, Christine (Michael) Bowman of Austintown, and a beloved daughter in law, Connie Davis of Warren. His former wife, Ida (Leonard) Louden of Niles, his 10 grandchildren Ryan, Kelli, Bryan, Dena, Heidi, Dude, Joey, Nathaniel, Ian, Sydney, and nine great-grandchildren.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents, a son Terry Davis on April 2, 1978, a grandson Derek and five brothers Kenneth, Leroy,Ralph, Harold, and Howard Davis.
Funeral services will be held at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home, Niles on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 6:30pm with Patty Scahill officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00pm until the services. Burial will be private.
Material contributions may be made to Celtic Hospice or the Niles McKinley High School Athletic Department.
