VIENNA - Joseph Francis Benedict Jr., 86, a life long Niles resident, passed away at 10:10 pm on Friday May 14, 2010 at his daughter's residence in Vienna.
He was born in Niles, Ohio on October 6, 1923 to Joseph F. and Harriett (Swegan) Benedict Sr. and lived in this community all his life.
A 1941 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, Joe retired in the early 1980's after driving truck for the McNicholas Company and several other firms for over 40 years.
He is survived by wife of 43 years, Shirley Benedict of Niles; daughter, Kim (Ronald) Tenney of Vienna; two sisters, Catherine Ridley of Millbrook, NY, Betty (Les) Reichardt of Liverpool, NY; six grandchildren, Kate, Kyle, Jonathan, Heidi, Hallie, Angela; nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gail Oldaker; son, Jeffrey B. Benedict and brother, James M. Benedict.
A private graveside funeral was held on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Niles City Cemetery. There were no calling hours.
