NILES - Mary C. Knapp, 74, of Niles, passed away at 9:05 am on Friday June 18, 2010 at her residence following a two month illness.

She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on July 3, 1935 the only child of Fred and Mary Elizabeth (Wiesen) Hoffman and moved to the Niles area in 1973 from Sharon, PA.
 
Mary worked for seven years as a noon aide at Niles Garfield Elementary School, retiring in 1990 and was a member of St. Stephen Church.  She enjoyed spending the winters in Florida, camping, bowling, golfing and singing in the Florida Red Oaks Campground choir.  For over 20 years she and her husband enjoyed modern and western square dancing.
 
She is survived by her husband Gilbert H. Knapp whom she married on July 27, 1973; five children, Susan (Dave) Hines of Sharon, PA, Mary Jane (Kenneth) Mallia of Plain City, Joanne (Ed) Herrick of Hubbard, Paula (Doug) Keener of Youngstown, Daniel T. (Jeannine) Lute of Struthers; nine step-children, Gilbert N. Knapp of Hernando, FL, Linda M. Knapp of Niles, Brenda J. (Vince) Corcoran of Hilliard, Richard L. (Cathy) Knapp of Niles, Patrick J. (Susan) Knapp of Niles, Robert G. (Tom Appel) Knapp of Niles, John M. (Angie) Knapp of Niles, David A. (Kim) Knapp of Fowler, Nicholas D. (Karen) Knapp of Mantua; 28 grandchildren; several great grandchildren.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Leland Ray Lute Jr.
 
Calling Hours will be Monday, June 21, 2010 from 5 to 8 pm at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home.  Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 10:00 am at St. Stephen Church.  Rev. Thomas Kraszewski will be the celebrant.  Burial will be at St. Stephen Cemetery.
 
Memorial Contributions may be made to Celtic Hospice.

    Sending your family my deepest condolences. Even though I haven't seen Aunt Mary for many years, I have very fond memories of her. She was always so kind and nice to me. I remember her warm and laughing smile. I pray that your memories of her will give you comfort during this very sad time.
