NILES - Robert E. Mears, 83, 1500 McKinley Avenue, died Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 9:51 pm at Trumbull Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

 

He was born in Niles on August 15, 1928 the son of Michael and Hazel (Garland) Mears and lived in this community all his life

 

Bob was a 1946 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and honorably discharged as a corporal from the United States Army serving from September 3, 1946 until January 22, 1948. He was a long standing employee of the RMI Company and retired as a general foreman on June 1, 1981.

 

He is survived by a son, Robert P. Mears; sister, Verona Durig; brother, John "Jack" (Kathleen) Mears all of Niles and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Elizabeth Rook.

 

A Memorial Service will be Monday, January 2, 2012 at 6:00 pm at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Kraszewski, of Saint Stephen Church officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour before the service. Burial will be in the Veterans Section of Niles City Cemetery.
